To enter your calories, please choose one of the meals (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner/Snack) on the main screen. Then enter your selected food item into the Search bar, and tap on the ‘+’ button on the right of the food you would like to log. To log a Favorite food or Dish, please select ‘Favorites’, or ‘Dishes’. Our PRO users can also use the Quick entry slider on the main screen to enter the exact amount of calories they've eaten in seconds.
With the Quick Entry slider, you can add calories or exercise in seconds. To add calories from food, swipe to the right, and to add calories burned through exercise, swipe to the left. Learning how to use the Quick Entry slider can make logging food or exercise on Arise even more convenient.
You can also delete your Quick Entry activities from the respective sections on the main screen: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack or Exercise. To do this, find 'Quick entry' in one of these sections, swipe to the left on it and tap 'Delete'.
The 'Quick Entry' slider is a PRO feature.
Each day can be completed between 8 pm of the same day and 12 am of the next, to ensure that all appropriate data has been entered.
We recommend completing the day right after 8 pm, as it's been shown to help our users remain focused on their weight loss goals and avoid evening overeating.
If the day isn't completed by 12 am on the following day, no medals can be won.
The daily dashboard is located on Arise's main screen.
Your daily calorie budget is labeled 'Kcal Goal'.
'Unclaimed' calories should be burned through physical activity on the present day. They can be collected by exercising or using the step counter. Physical activity can also be transferred from the Health app on your iPhone.
'Used' calories include a total of all the calories in the food that has already been logged today.
'Currently available' calories in the chart can be used for food right now, without taking physical activity into account. As you unlock calories, your currently available calories increase, until they reach the Kcal Goal.
The formula behind your dashboard is: Kcal Goal - Unclaimed - Used = currently available.
To enter your current weight, scroll down to the bottom of the ‘Diary’ screen. Please note that weight is synchronized with Apple Health if you've approved Health app access.
To enter Favorites, on the main screen, tap on the green '+' button next to the meal you have selected (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner/Snack). This will open the food database.
The quickest way to add a product to Favorites is by swiping right on the selected food item and tapping the star icon.
It's also possible to create a new Favorite food that doesn't exist in our food database. To do this, enter the 'Favorites' section at the top of the food database, then tap the ‘+’ on the bottom right.
Your Favorites are private and therefore not accessible by other users.
You can see how many Joy Points are currently available to you in the "Rewards" section. One Joy Point is equal to one calorie.
Joy Points are generated by doing activities or losing weight. In Arise PRO, Joy Points can be exchanged for an extra treat, without going over the kcal limit for the day. The progress bar shows you how many joy points you have already collected and how many are still to go. Once you have reached your goal and are ready to use your Joy Points, tap the "Enjoy" button. This will automatically add the corresponding calories and selected treat to your daily budget.
For an optimal metabolism boost, we recommend using your Joy Points once a week.
Arise offers direct integration with Health, an Apple application which exists in every iPhone. Arise can access information directly from the Apple Health app, saving time and effort for our users. This data includes weight, exercise and daily steps.
Arise can automatically receive information from any tracker and smart scale, as long as it can be integrated with the Apple Health app.
In order to use Arise's Health app integration, please enable the following settings:
1. Please ensure that you've enabled the connection between Arise and Apple Health by going to Arise → Settings → General → and checking that Apple Health is marked with a ✔️.
2. Also, please ensure that sharing is enabled between the Health app and Arise by going to the separate Health app and choosing Sharing → Apps → Arise → Turn On All.
3. Finally, you can also check if any third party apps that you are using allow integration and data transfer with the Apple Health app.
Please note that in order to receive data from most devices or trackers, it's necessary to sync them with your iPhone. To do this, you can open the third party app which is connected to the device or tracker, and wait until pairing is complete.
If you're experiencing trouble with syncing your steps from your tracker into your Health app, we recommend the following "quick fix": you can log your steps on Arise automatically through your iPhone's built-in pedometer. Then, if your tracker displays more steps than your pedometer, you can subtract the iPhone's steps from the tracker's steps, and manually input the difference in Arise app Exercise section.
Here are some integrations with popular trackers that are available:
Fitbit: no direct integration, but free third-party Apps (e.g. Power Sync for Fitbit).
Garmin: works with the official Garmin Connect App.
Polar: works with the official Polar Flow App.
Daily Coaching Tasks in Arise PRO are here to suggest healthy habits, and help our users integrate them into their daily lives. A new task is recommended each day. You can accept the task by tapping 'Start Now' and tap 'Complete' once it's done.
You can click on the small calendar at the top right of the main screen next to 'Today' to access your History, which includes all of your completed days.
The Health app automatically counts your iPhone or Apple watch steps, as well as your walking and running distances. If you have activated Apple Health within the Arise app, this data will be transferred automatically to Arise - no need to manually adjust your steps.
To manually adjust your activity in Arise app just add the time of walking in Exercise section in the main screen.
To manually adjust your steps in Apple Health:
Open the Health app and tap Browse to Steps → Add Data.
Enter the date, time, and data for that activity and tap ‘Add’.
It’s possible to adjust your start & goal weight within your profile by tapping Menu → Settings → Profile, and then tapping 'Start Weight' or 'Goal Weight' and changing the number on the slider.
Arise supports iOS 14 widgets in version 36 and onward.
To add widgets on an iPhone running iOS 14 or later, tap and hold the home screen to enter Jiggle Mode (all apps will be shaking and showing a ‘-’ on the top-left corner).
Now tap the ‘+’ button in the top-right corner to see all your available widgets. Tap the Arise widget and add it to your home screen.
The breastfeeding feature enables breastfeeding mothers to increase their calorie intake accordingly, so that they can use the calorie counter safely.
To activate this function, select ‘female’ while creating your profile, then tap on Menu (2 lines in the upper left corner) → Settings → Profile and activate one of the following options:
* Breastfeeding +500 kcal
* Partial breastfeeding +250 kcal
After saving these changes, your daily budget will increase accordingly.
Can't find a product in the database?
When in the food database, you can add new food entries by tapping on the green ‘+’ button on the bottom right of the page and then selecting the pen icon. Please note that only logged-in users can add new foods.
After downloading Arise your database will automatically reflect the country you are in.
To change the language, go to Settings → Food database → Database Language and choose a language from those currently available.
To access the login section, you can go to go to Menu → Settings → Login. If you input your email address and press the ‘send password’ button, you should automatically receive a password recovery email. If you haven’t received this email, please also check your spam folder.
Please note that after three failed recovery attempts, your account will be blocked for 24 hours.
We recommend keeping Arise updated so as to access our newest features and bug fixes. To do this, you can go to the App store, search for Arise and tap ‘Update’.
Additionally, you can enable Automatic Updates in your iPhone Settings -> App Store -> App Updates should be enabled.
Arise's AI Food Scanner uses the latest AI technology to scan the food on your plate, delivering quick and accurate results using advanced image recognition and algorithms.
To use our AI food scanner:
* Enter the food logging screen (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner or Snack)
* Tap the Camera icon at the bottom of the screen
* Fit everything inside the scanner frame, including edges of the plate
* Tap the camera button to start the scanning process, then wait up to 9 seconds for results
* Tap the green button on the bottom right of the Results page to add the food to your meal.
Yes! Tap the “Share” icon by the title of your meal to share it with friends or on social media.
Our AI-powered nutrition scanner is designed to be highly accurate in recognizing food types and portion sizes. However, as with all automated tools, results can vary. Factors like lighting and plate color, as well as ingredients that are difficult to measure (eg oil, sauce and salad dressing) can affect accuracy. The scanner works best for clearly visible foods and may be less precise for blended, heavily mixed, highly processed or international items. It's recommended to always check results from our nutrition scanner and make changes as needed.
If necessary, you can make the following changes after scanning your food:
* To add ingredients manually, you can tap the green “+ Ingredient” button next to “Ingredients Detected”
* To remove existing ingredients or edit their amounts, tap the pencil button to the right of the Ingredients.
* Use good lighting and avoid shadows
* Capture the full plate, ideally from above
* Keep the edges of the plate in-frame.
* Rotate or slightly move your phone if the scanner misidentifies an item.
* Scan ingredients separately for complex meals to improve detection.
Please keep in mind that following the above guidelines will give you the best possible results, but perfection is not guaranteed. It's recommended to always check results for accuracy.
At the bottom of the page, to the left, tapping the “Fix” button will take you to a direct chat where you can provide additional information to improve results, for example: “The salad uses low-fat salad dressing”.
Yes, only PRO users can log their food with the help of Arise's food scanner.
Your photos are sent directly and securely to our AI service for analysis. They are not seen by us, nor are they shared with third parties for advertising.

Why do I have to pay for Arise PRO? Why are not all Arise features available for free?
Arise uses a so-called freemium model. The term consists of ‘free’ (not-paid) features and ‘premium’ (paid) features.
Arise’s basic functions are available to all users free of charge. This includes the entry of meals and exercise in the food diary, the water counter the selection of your favorite foods - all that is needed to lose weight in a healthy way.
Other features, such as different charts to follow your weight loss, daily Bonus Challenges, the history of your completed days, the labeling of foods according to their energy density (shown in traffic lights colors), additional Achievements, the daily macronutrient distribution overview, as well as faster input by copying foods entered previously and saving your favorite recipes are only available to our PRO users. These features have been selected with care and all but ensure success through a precise blend of motivation, scientific tips and gamification.
You can choose between our simple calorie counter functions and the additional support offered by PRO access. Your motivation to reach your weight loss goals just costs a few cents per day - an investment in your own success.
With the purchase of the PRO version, you also support our work and the further development of Arise because, unlike most other apps, we have absolutely zero ads.
We are constantly working to improve Arise and to follow the wishes and realize requests of our users. If you have any suggestions for us, we look forward to receiving your message: “our support email”
At the moment we offer 3, 6 and 12 month subscriptions to Arise PRO. We also offer seasonal discounts.

When new foods are added to our database, they are first uploaded to our servers and an update is initiated, which is why you may not see the change automatically within the app. To update your database manually, just scroll to the top of your foods list and then drag the list down a little, until a loading indicator appears. This should complete the update so new foods are included.
Arise uses your iPhone’s pedometer to adjust the calorie budget. At the beginning of the day, the available calorie budget corresponds to your basic calorie needs without considering any additional movement. The calorie budget is then increased with every step.
On Arise's main dashboard, the 'Unclaimed' section displays calories which are meant to be unlocked by exercising or using the step counter.
The formula behind your dashboard is: Kcal Goal - Unclaimed - Used = currently available.
We try to verify as many entries as possible. If you find inaccurate values, please feel free to update them manually by swiping on them from right to left and then clicking on the pen icon to add your correction.
Entries are read directly from Apple Health app. If there is a duplicate entry, then it is most likely duplicated in Apple Health app as well. Please delete the duplicate there.
For the steps to be counted correctly, two requirements must be met:
In Arise’s settings, there must be a check next to Apple Health app.
In Apple Health app (with the white icon and the heart inside), access must be granted to Arise. You can find Arise under 'Sources' and change the settings there.
Newly registered profiles receive the slider three hours after installation.
Arise uses not only steps but also floors to calculate movement calories. The algorithm for determining these calories has been developed by our experts and is designed to be as realistic as possible. Other providers may calculate the calories with their own algorithms, thus creating the observed differences.
We recommend checking the available space within your iPhone settings and, if necessary, freeing space by deleting some data (unused apps or photo/video content). The app crashing is usually caused when iPhone storage is full.
In order to offer our users maximum data protection, personal history is stored only on individual devices. To access your history, please perform a full backup of your previous device.
We currently offer one of the most extensive databases on the market, which is why the language and location of our users play an important role in available food options. If you can't find the foods you're looking for in your app's database, please try the following solution:
1. In your iPhone settings, please select the country where you are located: Settings → General → Language & Region → Region and choose your country.
2. In the Arise application, please ensure that your preferred language is selected: '2 lines in the top right corner' → Settings → Food Database → Database language.
3. If the specific product that you're looking for hasn't appeared, as a "quick fix" you can add it to your list of Favorites: to do this, on the food logging screen, enter the Favorites section and add your food.
4. If you would like to enrich your country's database by making your favorite foods available to users who share the same Region as you, it would be much appreciated. Because we try to make Arise available in as many countries as possible, some products may not have been added to Regional databases yet, as is common in calorie counting applications. To improve our public database please visit the Food logging screen and tap the paper and pen icon in the bottom right corner. The next step is logging into Arise - it takes less than 30 seconds and allows you to input the information of your food. Once this step is complete, you can already log your food - it's that simple!
Energy density corresponds to the amount of energy, or calories, that’s present in a specific ‘weight’ of food.
At Arise, we use a system that helps our users understand the energy density of their food, offering them the tools they need to make more informed choices.
* 🟢 Food with a high amount of water and fiber usually has low energy density, and corresponds to a ‘green dot’.
* 🔴 Food with a high amount of sugar, fat and starch has high energy density, and corresponds to a ‘red dot’.
* 🟠 Food that’s somewhere in between corresponds to an ‘orange dot’.
🟢 Eating primarily ‘green foods’, helps our users to feel satisfied without being tempted to surpass their daily calorie limit.
🟠 ‘Orange foods’ are often very nutritious, so they play an important role in a balanced diet.
🔴 Because we believe in losing weight without restrictions, we also encourage our users to eat a small amount of ‘red foods’.
There are various reasons why our users may wish to gain weight, which is why we also offer this function.
When creating your profile, please set your ‘goal weight’ higher than your ‘start weight’. This will lead Arise to automatically place you in a daily caloric surplus, so that you can gain weight at the speed that you prefer.
Our goal at Arise is to help our users lose weight while eating foods that they enjoy. Because it wouldn’t be possible to create an individual plan for each and every one of our users, we encourage them to choose their daily foods based on their daily calorie limit.
This encourages them to discover their personal eating habits, learn about nutrition and find healthy meals that they enjoy - benefits that aren’t offered by following a meal plan. Learning how to make the right dietary choices is integral for creating a lasting positive relationship with food.
Your favorites, history and all inputted information will be deleted if you delete your profile.
